Coaching Flag Football - End of Season 1

Hey everyone, the Chief's season has come to an end. Today we lost to the Steelers 12 - 18 and it was an exciting game from beginning to end. I was pleased with the way our kids played and I never came in underestimating the Steelers because since we played them that first time, I believed they where one of the better teams in the league with good talent. In fact I was truly surprised that they didn't win a game all season.
I'm not sure if I said this before but the last few seasons in this league, the teams that didn't win a single game in the season ended up winning in the first rounds of the playoffs. From what I understand, my team wasn't the only one who suffered a lose at the hands of the underdog. It's a curse; the curse of the underdogs and today that curse ran wild. The Steelers answered the call today and played great, so did all the other underdogs today; I am happy for all of them.
This season I gave out prizes each week for 5 categories which where:
1) Best Offense 2) Best Defense 3) Best Effort 4) Team Player 5) Best Listener
Each kid was allowed 1 prize from each category so that way they'd have to focus on each category one week at a time. Each of my kids improved on most of those categories as the season went on. No one got all the categories this season but this is something I'll definitely implement fo seasons to come.
DEM Flag Football is a great organization and if you live in the Orlando area and want your kids to be a part of something that is wholesome, inexpensive, positive, educational, and just down right fun please visit:

for $55.00 your kids can have a great experience.
Well folks, I had a great time in my first football coaching run. I've learned a lot of things that will help me out for the next season and it was an experience I'll never forget. I'd like to take this time to thank the parents of the kids I coached this season. Their support was so great that at time I believed that I could move mountains with those kids.
I also want to thank my assistant coach who simply did an awesome job on defense with these kids. From day one me and him just clicked which made things run very smoothly. More then likely he won't be around when I coach in the spring time and it's not an easy feeling knowing that. I'll truly miss him as my assistant coach but hopefully we can stay in touch as friends.
My first season of coaching flag football comes to an end and I didn't go 7 - 0, nor did we get another shot at the Panthers, and we didn't make it past the first rounds of the playoffs; but me, my team and the parents had a great time and an out of this world run. How was Don Shula's first coaching season?
So now I switch gears and move on to coaching basketball for my 11 year old which starts next week. I'm not sure if I'll be writing about that yet or not, but you better believe that you'll hear of my experiences as I coach flag football again in Feb. Hopefully all the kids and parents will return for another run at greatness. Until then; take care!
