the 2006 wsop

Nothing beats the World Series, those two words spark the intrest of any sports fan. They know what it is and what it means. The 2006 MLB Playoffs have its stories like it always does. In 2004 the Boston Red Sox came back from 3-0 to beat the dynasty Yankees and then go on to break the longest 'curse' in baseball history. 2005 saw the Rodger Clemmens pitch his 'last' World Series game, which only lasted 3 innings and the Chichago White Sox win the whole she-bang.

This year has its wonderful stories as well. The Tigers, who last year finished a dismal 71-90 and in 2004 finished worst in the MLB with 43-119... 119 games lost. Bring in Jim Leyland, a man who has taken teams like the Tigers under his wing and taken them to the promice land. He did that in 2003 when the Florida Marlins beat the New York Yankess. If Jim Leyland is not the best manager in baseball right now... I ask you to find me a Manager who has taken two under .500 clubs and taken them to the big dance.

The St. Louis Cardinals, what can you say about this team? In the past three years, they have been to the NLCS three times in the past three years. 2004 beat the Houston Astros, 2005 lost to the Houston Astros, 2006 beat the New York Mets. When they got there in 2004, they were swept by the Red Sox, in 2005 they lost a thirlling six game series to the Red Sox, and this year they took New York to game seven and won with a historic 9th inning homerun to beat the Mets in seven games.

Now lets go to this years World Series. Game two is where it all starts. Kenny Rodgers who has been pitching lights out this entire post season, 3-0 so far, 23.0 IP, 9 hits, 7 Bases on Balls, 19 SO, and a 0.00 ERA. What could honestly bring this guy down?

PINE TAR! I said it, so go a head, start leaving the hate comments, start spaming my email account, call my cell phone and leave me a death threat or two, and do what ever you want.

Honestly, I don't know if it was pine tar or not, I'm not a pitcher, an umpire, or a manager. I'm just a guy trying to start a sports web site with three other guys.

There are a lot of reasons to believe that it wasn't pine tar. La Russa did not raise hell about it and the players did not bring the issue up any more then what it did. The MLB has said that its not going to investagate the issue any further. I'm willing to let this issue rest, everyone else in the media has beaten this thing to death and its just not fun anymore.

Now when Rodgers does pitch game 6, we will see what happens, if the umps will take a look at his hands before the game starts, feel him up a little bit and then take him out to dinner beacuse thats what a nice guy does.

Now for my prediction... St. Louis in seven games. Detroit will win the next game, St. Louis will win in Detroit, St. Louis will win both game six and seven.

If I'm wrong.. then call me and threaten to kill me. Its that simple people!

I gotta tell ya, baseball just doesn't do it for me anymore. The Dodgers-Yankees game had my attention for about 15 minutes. I would love to be a huge baseball fan, and I've tried to get into the game. Am I missing something or does the energy of the game just seem lacking?
